How To Make A Hangi

This week we are making our hangi so our teacher let us chose how we are going to show how to make a hangi. Me and my group choice an animation to finish today. I found easy animating my slide. I found nothing hard. The learning behind this task was to help us know what to do at the hangi. Here is my work.

Christmas Decoration 2019

This week we have been doing some Christmas decorations for whanau night this week. I have done some snowmen to stand up near the tree maybe. They are made out of toilet rolls colored paper and googly eyes. I found it easy making my snowmen with my partner Tristan. I didn't find any thing hard. The learning behind this task was to help us save some money for next year's ski trip. Here is my work.

My Wreath

Today we got to design our own Christmas decoration. I have designed a wreath we had the choose of anything but we had to be apply to make it. we are making decoration to be sold at my school's whanau day. I found easy making my wreath. Spelling Practice

This week, we have a spelling test. So our teachers said we should do some spelling practice to get  us ready for the test. We had to choose ten words from list 6 7 8. I liked to choose the 10 words off the list. I found it hard finding out the root words. The learning behind this task was to help us get better at spelling. Here is my work.

Language Exploration 2019

This week, after our animal report, we did a language exploration. It is when we pick a normal verb or adjective and find 10-15 words that mean the same thing. If we found a word that we did not know we had to find the definition, syllables, vowels, smaller words that mean the same, how its said, and a sentence including this word. I found easy finding words that meant the same thing. I found hard writing the description of a word. The meaning behind this task was to explore words that we didn't know. Here is my work.

Animal Report

This week, we have been doing our animal reports. I did my animal report about a komodo dragon. The slide tells you about most things about the animal. I liked researching about the komodo dragon. I found hard think how to put it in my own words. The meaning behind this task was to write about a pet we want. Here is my work.

My ambition for 2020

This year I am a year 5 at Ohaeawai Primary. I have enjoyed learning new things and using my creative mind with my work.

My favourite things that have happened this year. I have enjoyed making creative art and animations, also greats and grands.

My least  favourite thing was Math Week, I like math but I like doing it by myself sometimes.

Next year I will be a year 6 student.

My goal for 2020 is to learn more about technology and how it works also to get better at reading and writing.

To help my schools rubbish problem I say we should go outside and pickup rubbish every afternoon.

I don't want to be a young leader but I would like to be more helpful and trustworthy at my school.

M Peters Spelling Test

Kia Ora everyone

Today, we sat the Margaret Peters Spelling Test. I scored 41 which gives me a spelling age of 12.4

At the beginning of the year, I scored 38 and had a spelling age of 11.0

So, I improved my spelling age by 1.4.

I think I got this result because I have been doing my spelling and remembering my words

Hot Air Balloon Survival

Last week we did a slide about a hot air balloon survival. On the island we have yeast, sugar, and hot water from a rock pool that was heated by the sun. PS this slide isn't sufficiently correct. I didn't use a hot air balloon I used a raft to escape from the island. I liked writing the creative writing. I found hard thinking of what to write. The meaning behind this task was to do a new experiment.here is my work.

Octopus Writing

This week, we have been reading articles and they all had tasks. One of those, was a article about a octopus called Heidi. First, we had to compare her to  one of our pets. Next, we had to write about if we had a octopus.  I liked writing about the octopus because, we were free to write about what we did with the octopus and how we found it. I found it hard writing in my book, because I'm used to my Chromebook The meaning behind this task was to let us do some creative writing. Here's my work and the compare your animal thing.

A Goal For Term 4 2019

For Term Four my goal is to get above average in spelling, writing and maths, so I can be ready for the end of the year and next year.

Movies

This week we have been preparing our movie board for movie day in Term 4. My groups movie is about a kidnapping of a little kid. Our moral is about don't go with strangers. Here is our storyboard.

Science Fair

Kia ora This week we had science fair. My experiment was Will the length of time a balloon hovercraft hover be affected by weight? I will have my slide down below to show my presentation. There were lots of different experiments done on that day, like what fruit has more power or a tornado in a jar. I liked explaining my work. Here it is my slide that shows my work. This weeks we have been trying to complete our inquiry task. My inquiry task was about what would happen if the sun's flame went out. I enjoyed researching about facts for our inquiry task in my slide there is a slide that shows where I found all of my facts. I found it hard doing most of the slides. I also found out humans cannot live without light from the sun. The sun could fit over one million Earths inside it. Here is my inquiry task.

Gold Leaves

Yesterday we went outside to look at some autumn leaves beneath a tree. Then we wrote about it.
It was tricky finding appropriate adjectives which started with the right letter to make my acrostic poem work.

Myth Writing

This week we have been finishing and blogging our myths. I have done one about how we have plants around the world. Here is my work.

Long long ago on a planet with no green there lived a man, his wife and their
son. One day the boy’s father asked him to go outside and find some food
because they were running low. So he set off to find what he could. But he got
lost and soon it was dark and cold. Suddenly, he saw a big tall spaceship.

it was a weird looking alien. It was green all over. The boy was amazed because
he’d never seen
green before. The alien started talking and said , “I have crashed on your planet
because
I ran out of fuel.
I need water to get my rocket going again. Do you know where some is?“

So, the boy helped the alien fill his water tank with water from a nearby
lake. Just before the alien blasted off for home he handed something to the
boy.
“ Thanks for your help,” he said. “Plant these seeds and grow resources, trees,
and
forests.”

The boy replied, “How will they grow? How will they live in this barren land?”

“Just plant, splash it with water and wait for the magic to happen,”
replied the alien. Next minute, there was big whoosh and boom, and the alien
had gone. So the boy put the seeds in his pocket and turned around wondering
what to do next.

  

Suddenly, he saw a light in the distance. He raced for it.  
When he got closer he saw that it was his own home and his parents were
waiting for him. They were so happy to see him.

The next morning the boy planted the seeds, watered them and waited.
After a while, some little green plants popped out of the plain, hard sand.
The boy was amazed.  By the time the boy’s father got up he came out to
find a fresh fine forest filled with fruit and vegetables at the entrance
to his stone house. The man was mind

blown. Everywhere there was green grass and big trees and in one was his son,
yelling out to him, “Dad! Dad! Look how high I am!”

The boy’s father got his wife and helped their son down. Amazed,  
the boy’s parents asked him how all this had happened. So, the boy told them
about the alien and the seeds and they all lived happily on fruit and vegetables
ever after.

And that’s why our planet has many green and wonderful plants.

We have been learning about the structure of the earth. This animation shows what I know about the Earth's four layers.

Is Earth like a boiled egg

We are learning about what the Earth is like on the outside and the inside. We used hard-boiled eggs as mini-models for the earth. We got to design our own continents and islands on the outside of the egg shell. At the end of the experiment we got to eat the egg!

Structure Of The Earth Facts

Structure of the Earth Facts

We are learning about the structure of the Earth.

I learnt that the Earth is made up of 4 layers. They are: the crust that is the first layer the mantle the second layer the outer core the third layer the inner core the last layer.

Facts about each layer:

Crust - The crust is the shortest layer it is 40 km long it is solid brittle deepest hole in the world got up to 12 km they had to stop because it got to hot and the tools stop working.

Mantle - The mantle is the thickest layer, it is made out of melted rocks that makes it soft and squishy.

Outer Core - The outer core is so hot it gets to the temperature of the surface of the sun, this layer is total liquid.

Inner Core - Now the inner core is solid even though it is so hot because the pressure from all of the other layers of the Earth around it.

First we created a 3D image of the earth using ….. soft clay, knife.

We then cut the shape in half to show the different layers. After waiting for it to dry, we
identified each layer by painting them in different colours.

Mixed ability maths

This term we have had mixed ability groups for maths. I was not so happy about my group because we found it hard to work together to solve the problems.
How I feel about it: I have found it interesting when every one in my group does share their strategies.
What I have enjoyed: finding out other ways of solving the questions from the other groups.
What I found Difficult: helping my team agree with my answer.
Why I find this tricky: helping my group understand what I did and to make my group find their own way to share their work on how they solved the problems.
What can I do to change my negative thinking: help my team think more about the questions.
How can I do it: help my team do the question their way.

This week, we have been learning about equal adjustments and place value partitioning. I have done three google draws using place value partitioning and equal adjustments. I liked doing the questions and using equal adjustments because I used them twice. I found hard remember all of the numbers. The Living World Unit Study

This is my living world slideshow. For the next 5 or 6 weeks we will be choosing our own activities to
learn about the living world. We did a multiple intelligences test to see what kind of learner we are.

This week, we have finished art. This art style was made by a man called Kandinsky. He made this circle art that was made by using hot and cold colors each circle with a different  type of color. The differences of ours is we cut out a life form using black paper. I liked cutting out my life form. I found hard coloring my circles.we were learning about life forms. Here is my work.

Digging Deeper Earthworms

This week we have been doing writing called digging deeper. we do a simple sentence then we make it better and better. I liked learning about earthworms because we can see what they will do when we do something around them and see how they react. I found it hard stopping the worms from escaping the box.

I enjoyed putting the questions in the little boxes.

This week we have made a portrait of us as fruit. We had to use our favourite fruit or vegetables. We had to use the arrange button to send stuff to the back of it or the front of it.
